Bryant Park is a reservoir of calm in central Manhattan. The park's large lawn surrounded by flower beds, with gravel pathways lined by trees, offer welcoming shade from the hot summer sun, making it an ideal place to relax and escape the urban turmoil that surrounds it.
The park is a social place where friends meet, eat lunch, chat, stroll, listen to music, play chess, work on the wireless network, or simply sit and think. Its reading 'room' provides an electic selection of books, periodicals and newspapers which are freely available for people to browse. On weekday lunchtimes the reading room often hosts readings and other literary events.
The park's lawn provides a place to picnic or sunbathe, but is also used for many social events. On Monday evenings throughout the summer crowds gather to watch the free film broadcast on its large screen, and on Thursday evenings during July and August cast members from Broadway musicals perform their show's biggest hits.
Many other events also regularly take place in the park, such as Yoga and Tai-Chi, one can even learn to knit at the free classes provided by the Park's knitting group.
