MOUNT EDEN




Mount Eden (Maori name: Maungawhau) is an extinct volcano, around 200 metres above sea level, in a suburb of Auckland, around five kilometres south of the city centre. It is said to have last erupted tens of thousands of years ago.

It is well worth visiting for its majestic bowl-like crater about 50 metres deep and the great views it offers in all directions over the city.

There are no refreshment or toilet facilities on Mount Eden.

Location
Vehicle entry is off Mt Eden Road.
Walkways off Clive Road, Glenfell Place, Batger Place, Hillside Crescent, Rautangi Road and Owens Road.

How to Get There
Bus: 274; car, or tour bus
Walking from downtown will take around 45 min
