Mount Eden (Maori name: Maungawhau) is an extinct volcano, around 200 metres above sea level, in a suburb of Auckland, around five kilometres south of the city centre. It is said to have last erupted tens of thousands of years ago.
It is well worth visiting for its majestic bowl-like crater about 50 metres deep and the great views it offers in all directions over the city.
There are no refreshment or toilet facilities on Mount Eden.
