
Devonport, is a seaside village, on the northern shores of Auckland City. It is only 12 minutes by ferry and around 20 minutes by car from downtown Auckland.
Devonport has a wide range of restaurants, cafes, beaches, art galleries and shops, particularly on Victoria Rd.
There are several museums including The Navy Museum and Devonport Museum.
You can enjoy the superb views of the city and gulf from North Head hill, which also contains an extensive collection of military tunnels which are open for exploration, and Mt Victoria hill with wonderful views of Rangitoto Island.
Cheltenham Beach, about 1 mile from the ferry terminal, is a sandy and a safe place to swim. Halfway down the beach is McHugh's Reception Lounge, where you can have a buffet lunch every day from 11.30am to 2.00pm.
Devonport is a nice place to walk and explore. You can pick up a copy of The Old Devonport Walk & Explore Historic Devonport brochures at the Devonport Visitor Centre on Victoria RD, close to the ferry terminal.
How to Get There
Ferry from the central business district of Auckland. It runs every half hour during the daytime and the ride takes 15 minutes
