MOTAT ( Museum of Transport & Technology )




MOTAT (Museum of Transport & Technology) opened in 1964

The museum has in its possession over 300,000 items covering everything from fire engines to World War 2 planes, steam trains to a fully functioning tram line, and houses Aviation, Military and Rail collections.

The museum is located on 2 separate sites: MOTAT 1 on Great North Road, and MOTAT 2 on Motions Rd / Meola Road (about 20 minutes walk, although a free tramline takes you from one part of the museum to the other).

MOTAT 1 include trains, trams, cars, buses, trolleybuses, trucks etc. Plus fire engines. There is also a victorian village.

MOTAT 2 includes the Aviation Collection - aircraft from New Zealand's Civil Aviation and top Dressing history. Two of the most notable aircraft in the collection are the only Solent Mark IV Flying Boat in the world and one of only a handful of WW2 Avro Lancaster Bombers in the world. Also Railways and Steam Trains.

from 10am. Last entry 4.30pm, closes at 5pm

Adults $14nz, $7nz, Senior Citizens $7nz
