Set in over five acres, this ‘living museum’ presents life in a Fencible village during the early European settlement of Auckland. The Village has one of the most extensive collections of early colonial buildings in New Zealand including raupo cottages, schools, Fencible cottages, a church, blacksmiths shop, and general store - over 30 buildings of the 1840 - 1880 period, which have been restored by volunteer members of the Howick and Districts Historical Society.
A costumed guide is on hand to welcome visitors and interpret how the Fencibles lived and worked. Alternatively, visitors can stroll around the Village on their own and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of this unique attraction.
Special ‘Live Days’ are held on the third Sunday of every month (except December), when up to 30 volunteers dress up as villagers and do daily village tasks.
There is a Village Shop for you to buy some toys of yesteryear, tea towels and other tourist merchandise.
There is also the "Homestead Cafe", where you can enjoy lunch or afternoon tea.
