VALLETTA, MALTA MUSEUMS



01   The National Archaelogical Museum

The museum has artefacts dating back to Malta’s Neolithic period; from the Ghar Dalam phase (5200 BC) up to the Tarxien phase (2500 BC). Highlights include the ‘Sleeping Lady’ from the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum, the ‘Venus of Malta’ from Hagar Qim and the large altars from the Tarxien Temples.

02   National Museum of Fine Arts

Presents a multifaceted overview of art and artistic expression in Malta from the late medieval period to the contemporary. Highlights from the collection include paintings by local and international artists, including works by William Turner and Albert Bierstadt.

03   National War Museum

Housed in the old Drill Hall of Lower Fort St Elmo. The museum focuses on the two World Wars (1914-18 and 1939-45). Highlights include the Gloster Sea Gladiator 'Faith', the only surviving biplane of the trio of planes that defended Malta early in the war; Willys Jeep ‘Husky’ used by General Eisenhower before the invasion of Sicily of 1943; the George Cross awarded to the people of Malta for heroism in 1942.
