Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography opened in 1990 and features its own collection of over 18,000 works (not all displayed) ranging from the historical to the contemporary with the majority by Japanese photographers. It also has many visiting exhibitions.
(The museum now labels itself "Syabi", pronounced shabi.)
