PATH OF PHILOSOPHY (Tetsugaku No Michi)

A popular walk along the 'Path of Philosophy' (Tetsugaku no michi) which runs besides a canal that connects Ginkakuji to the vicinity of Nanzenji. It is most popular in spring for cherry blossom viewing. Cherry trees are planted along most of the over one kilometer long path. The trees are usually in bloom in the beginning to mid April. (Note: Our pictures were taken in November!)

It derives its name because Japanese philosopher, Kitaro Nishida, used to walk the path to meditate.

Start the walk at either Ginkakuji or Nanzenji. (Note that the path actually starts/ends around the Nyakuoji Shrine - a 5 - 10 minute walk north of Nanzenji.)
