KYOTO STATION

Kyoto Station is Japan's second-largest train station building (after Nagoya Station) and is one of the country's largest buildings, incorporating a shopping mall, hotel, movie theater, Isetan department store, restaurants, several local government facilities and an observation deck under one fifteen-story roof.

The futuristic gray steel-and-glass building designed by Hiroshi Hara, opened in 1997 to much controversy because of its modern design in a city famed for its cultural heritage.
