The Museum of Kyoto was opened on October 1998.
This museum shows the history and culture of Kyoto through various exhibitions, films and audio presentations. Many exhibitions change every three months or so.
The modern-looking annex building, designed for the Bank of Japan by Kingo Tatsuno & his disciple, Uheiji Nagano in 1906, is one of the well known examples of western architecture in Kyoto.
Between the Main Building and the Annex, an elegant tea shop is located in what was formerly the vault of the Bank of Japan. Tea, coffee, other beverages and confections are available.
