
Kawai Kanjiro (1890-1966) was one of the greatest potters in Japan. This museum was originally his residence, and his pottery, calligraphy, wood carvings and his collecting work's are exhibited.
The term mingei (folk art) was coined by Soetsu Yanagi in 1926 to refer to common crafts that had been brushed aside and overlooked by the industrial revolution.
