  CURRENCY

The yen (JPY, ¥) is the official currency of Japan

Coins: 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500 yen.

Bills: 1000, 2000, 5000, and 10000 yen.


  CREDIT CARDS

Visa, MasterCard and American Express are all widely accepted in Kyoto for most things including shopping, restaurants, hotel bills. However, many places still only take cash.


  MONEY EXCHANGE

You can change cash at most Banks in Kyoto

There are several ATM machines in Kyoto, which may be cheaper to withdraw money using your debit or credit card, but this depends on your individual bank charges!! (NOTE: Not all ATMs will accept foreign cards and not all ATMs are open 24 hours - Kyoto Central Post Office next to Kyoto Station accepts foreign cards.)

Generally, there is no tipping in Japan!
