  CURRENCY

The EURO became the official currency of Italy in 2002, replacing the lira.

There are 100 cents in a Euro (€).

Euro Coins: 1€, 2€

Cent Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50

Euro Notes: 5€, 10€, 20€, 50€, 100€, 200€, 500€


  CREDIT CARDS

Visa, MasterCard and American Express are all widely accepted in Rome for most things including Shopping, restaurants, Hotel bills.


  MONEY EXCHANGE

You can change cash at Banks in ROME

There are several ATM machines (Bancomats) in Rome, which may be cheaper to withdraw money using your debit or credit card, but this depends on your individual bank charges!!


  BANKS OPENING TIMES

Generally 08:30 - 13:30 and 15:00 - 16:00 (Mon - Fri)


  TIPPING

Restaurants: Although restaurant bills often include a service charge of 15%, you are still expected to tip the waiters 5% - 10%.

Cafes and Bars: if sitting at a table 15%, but only if a bill does not already include service charge.

Taxis: 5% -10% of the fare.

Chambermaid: 0.75€ - 1€ a day

Room service waiter 0.50€ - 1€

Hotel bar: 15%

Porter at hotel: 0.50€ - 1€

Porter at Railway/airport: They charge a fixed rate per suitcase; tip an additional 0.25€ per person

Theatre ushers: 0.50€
