
The Borghese Gallery (Galleria Borghese) is housed in the Villa Borghese Pinciana, built by architect Flaminio Ponzio in 1612.
The Villa Pinciana was built as a museum by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the nephew of Pope Paul V, to house fine examples of ancient and modern art.
The Gallery has a permanent collection and also special exhibitions.
Highlights include major works by Raphael, Rubens, Titian, Caravaggio, Bernini, Antonello da Messina and Canova.
