The Archaeological Museum of Umbria is located off Corso Cavour on Piazzo G. Bruno, and housed in the former Dominican convent of San Domenico, attached to the huge 14th century San Domenico church.
The museum was started in 1790 by a donation from Francesco Filippo Friggeri of Perugia, who gave his collection of Etruscan and Roman works to the city of Perugia.
The museum was located in many buildings before finally settling in its present location in 1948.
The museum contains the Cippo di Perugia (Cippus Perusinus) (3rd –2nd century BC), an Entruscan boundary stone that has the longest Etruscan inscription ever found.
