The Galleria Palatina has over 500 Renaissance paintings, which were mostly part of the Medici art collection. The gallery, which overflows into the royal apartments, contains works by Raphael, Titian, Caravaggio, Rubens, Pietro da Cortona, Van Dyck, Botticelli, and Filippo Lippi.
The Palatina Gallery is housed in the Pitti Palace, said to be built in part to a design by Filippo Brunelleschi. The core of this large palace
dates from 1458 and situated at the front of the large Bobili Gardens.
The palazzo is now a large museum complex and houses not only the Palatina Gallery, but also the Royal Apartments - a suite of 14 rooms, formerly used by the Medici family, which are now part of the Gallery. The Pitti Palace and gardens also houses the Gallery of Modern Art; Porcelain Museum, Costume Gallery, and 'Museo degli Argenti' (The Medici Treasury).
Entrance fee for the Palatina Gallery also includes entrance to Gallery of Modern Art. A separate entrance free gives access to the other museums in the palace.
