The Bargello, which became a sculpture museum in 1865, has many renaissance sculptures, including masterpieces by Michelangelo, such as his Bacchus, Madonna and Child (Tondo Pitti), Brutus and David-Apollo. Also many works by Donatello, Luca della Robbia, Verrocchio, and Cellini.
The National Bargello Museum is housed in the former Palace of the Capitain of the People (Palazzo del Popolo), part of which dates back to 1255.
