01   Basilica di San Lorenzo
       (Medici Chapels)

Church partially designed by Brunelleschi. The complex is the burial place of most members of the Medici family. Highlights includes the New Sacristy on Michelangelo's designs and who also designed the Medici tombs within; The Chapel of the Princes - the mausoleum of the Medici grand-dukes; two bronze pulpits by Donatello; altarpiece of the Annunciation by Fra Filippo Lippi.

02   Basilica di Santa Maria Novella

Designed by two Dominican friars in the mid-13th century. Highlights include Alberti's facade; Pulpit designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, The Holy Trinity by Masaccio; Stained-glass windows and frescoes by Lippi; Frescoes by Domenico Ghirlandaio; A famous wooden Crucifix by Brunelleschi.

03   Piazza della Repubblica

A large popular public square with street-artists and impromptu exhibitions along with several cafes popular with the city's artists and writers. Around the square are hotels, small department stores and classy shops. It is a great place to chill out and watch the world go by!

04   Santo Spirito

Church designed by Brunelleschi. The interior is a fine example of early Renaissance architecture. It has frescoes by Filippino Lippi. The sacristy designed by Giuliano da Sangallo contains a wooden crucifix by Michelangelo. The Piazza is a popular lively tree lined square with market stalls, cafes, restaurants and small shops.
