The delightful Heroes' Square, situated at the end of Andrássy Avenue, and next to City Park, was designed in 1896 to celebrate the 1, 000th anniversary of the Hungarian nation, but was not finished until 1929.
It is a landmark of Budapest with the Millennium Memorial, designed by Albert Schickedanz, standing at its centre, with a statue of Archangel Gabriel on top of the central column and statues of historical Hungarian figures, including statues representing the founders of the Magyar nation.
The wonderful buildings of the Museum of Fine Arts and The Mucsarnok Palace of Arts are to the left and right side of the square.
