 | | Ruins of central heating system |
The ruins of the ancient Roman city of Aquincum (around 2nd century AD) were discovered around the end of the 18th century.
While walking around these ruins you will find remains of public baths, a central heating system, a basilica, a covered market hall, and many more interesting remains.
Within the ruins' grounds are two museums: One built in 1894, which has temporary exhibitions and a new modern museum that has a permanent display of objects from this and other Roman sites.
It is best to buy a guide book to understand what you are looking at as the ruins are not always easy to work out!
Nearby, on the other side of the railway line (next to the HEV station), is the ruins of the amphitheatre.
