Generally, the same ticket can be used on the metro, tram and bus, although some cheaper single types may not allow transfer!
There are several ticket options including a 75 minute transfer ticket with unlimited transfers for around 26 crowns. There are also cheaper options if your journey is for only a few stops and no transfer involved. (You must stamp your ticket on the tram & bus and in the machine at metro stations before getting on the metro.)
Several passes are also available : 24 hours (100 crowns); 3 day (330 crowns); 5 day (500 crowns).
You can buy tickets from metro stations, newsstand kiosks and some hotels.
Bus
Buses are mostly useful only when visiting the suburbs as most are not allowed in the city centre. (You can buy a ticket from the driver if you have small change)
Metro
The efficient subway system is a quick and easy way to get around. There are three lines – A B, & C that run from 05.30am to midnight.
Tram (Streetcar)
Prague has an extensive tram service that runs from 04.30am to midnight. (There are some limited night trams). A Useful tram for tourists is Number 22, which connect the New Town to the Castle Quarter .
Taxi
Prague taxi drivers have a reputation of ripping off tourists.(Don't let this put you off - most are not crooks!). So be sensible and ensure the meter is turned on or better still ask for a set price. Also ask for a receipt. Avoid taxis in front of the train station or at a tourist site. Average fare in city is 40 crown for boarding, then around 26 crown per km, plus 6 crown a minute waiting time in traffic jams etc.
You may hail taxis in the street, but will probably be better to order a taxi by telephone.
