PARKS & GARDENS IN PRAGUE




01  Petrin Hill (Park)

A favourite recreational area for both locals and tourists. It is almost entirely covered with parks and many interesting sights, including the Observation Tower (a small Eiffel Tower) for good views of the Prague skyline. The funicular takes you to the summit, or you can walk.

02  Letna Park

A large woodland space situated on a plateau above Prague that offers commanding views of the Old Town. Ideal for outdoor activities, such as jogging, roller-skating, cycling etc, and yet still offers secluded areas that are ideal for a picnic or a quiet gentle stroll. The most dominant, and by far unusual object in the park, is the giant Metronome.

03  Kampa Island Park

Small, but delightful Kampa Island offers a green oasis in the middle of busy tourist Prague. The island is accessible from steps on the side of Charles Bridge and offers a park, riverside cafes and a museum of Modern Art. There is also a picturesque waterway, called the Devil's Stream (Certovka) which is known as the 'Venice of Prague' because of the houses that sit on the water's edge.

04  Franciscans' Garden

This small Garden with its rows of white benches and cultivated rose bushes, is a peaceful oasis that lies just off Wenceslas Square

05   Vyšehrad

A beautiful location far from the maddening crowds. Offers delightful views of the Vltava river and of the city below, making it an ideal place for a picnic, or refreshments in one of the cafes. A fortification was built here in the 10th century - few of the castle's original buildings remain. There is the beautiful Church of St. Peter and St. Paul and its cemetery where famous Czechs, such as the composers Dvorak and Smetana are laid to rest.

06  Wallenstein Palace Gardens

The delightful Italian garden of the Wallenstein Palace has a sala terrena (garden pavilion), a grotto with artificial stalactites, an aviary and an artificial lake with an island. A collection of bronze statues (Copies)by Dutch sculptor Adrien de Vries. Concerts are often held in the garden.
