The Castle Picture Gallery was established in 1965 in the former stables of the emperor Rudolf II at Prague Castle.
The gallery has a collection of 4000 items, but only around one hundred paintings in the Gallery are displayed, including works of Titian, Aachen, Tintoretto, and Rubens.
The roots of the collection go back to the end of the 16th century when emperor Rudolf II amassed a large collection. Only a few of those paintings have been preserved from his famous gallery for the current collection.
The new collection dating from the mid 17th century comprises significant works by Italian, German, Netherlands, Flemish and other masters.
