Yonge-Dundas Square, on the South-East corner of Yonge and Dundas Streets, is a public square at the heart of downtown Toronto. The many neon lights and large video screens on buildings around the square have earned it the nick-name of 'Toronto's Times Square.'
At the centre of the square are rows of splash fountains which at night are lit from below by coloured lights. In the summer these fountains are popular with young children and with joggers who use them to cool down.
The square regularly hosts many public events such as theatrical events, film screenings, concerts, promotions etc. On weekends during the summer, the square is the site of an artisan market where local artists and crafts people can sell their wares directly to the public.
An information booth can also be found in the square.
Across from the square is the large Eaton Shopping Centre.
Built on land that was originally occupied by a block of retail stores in a run town area of town, the area was re-invented as a public space. Designed by Brown + Storey Architects, the square was opened to the public in November 2002.
