HARBOURFRONT

Toronto's Harbourfront is located in downtown Toronto along the northern shore of Lake Ontario that extends along Queen's Quay between Yonge street and Spadina Avenue.

Originally developed for industry much of the area has been redeveloped into a shopping/entertainment complex.

The Queen's Quay is home to The Harbourfront Centre and Harbour Square Park - where one catches the ferry to Toronto Park Island.

The Harbourfront Centre is a non-profit organisation that provides cultural/entertainment events in a collection of distinctive buildings within a 10 acre site. It is a place where you can take a leisurely stroll, sit and lookout on Lake Ontario, shop, dine or take in one of the many cultural events held here.

Attractions include The Queen's Quay Terminal - originally a cold storage facility, the art-deco building is now a condominium that houses a shopping mall, restaurants, the Premiere Dance Theatre and the Museum of Inuit Art.

Along the Harbourfront marina one can stroll on the boardwalk, sit and watch the boats on Lake Ontario, or take a cruise on the lake in a variety of different sailing vessels. The area is popular with street entertainers, and the food stalls at the international market offer crusine from around the world.

Musical concert's are regurlarly offered in Toronto Music Garden, designed by cellist Yo Yo Ma and landscape designer Julie Moir Messervy, based on Bach's First Suite for Unaccompanied Cello. Each dance movement within the suite corresponds to a different section of the garden. Tours of the garen are offered during the summer, or one can take a self-guided audio tour.

Other attractions include an outdoor theatre (Sirius Stage), an exhibition space (York Quay Centre) and the Wellas Rink - a pond that is used for ice-skating during the winter.
