The Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art was opened in 1984 by George and Helen Gardiner to house their collection of ancient American artefacts and European pottery and porcelain.
Enhanced by other major gifts, the collection now consists of more than 3,000 pieces, ranging from ancient American vessels, the fine porcelains of Asia and Europe, to dynamic contemporary pieces.
As well as a permanent collection, the museum regularly has special exhibitions.
The Museum was closed in 2004 for a major expansion, reopening in August 2006.
Guided Tours (Free with entrance fee) are available 2pm Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, where one can hear stories and fascinating facts about ceramics from the Museum's knowledgable docents.
