Toronto Island Park is a chain of three small islands (and a few smaller islands) just offshore from the City of Toronto, which are interconnected by footbridges. The islands are a popular car-free recreation ground, with forested pathways and sandy beaches - making it an ideal place to escape from the city.
The main attraction is Centre Island, especially for young families. The Island is home to Centreville's children's amusement park, which has over 30 rides and attractions, and Far Enough Farm, which houses a variety of domestic animals.
Ward's Island, home to a small residential community, is ideal for secluded walks in parkland and wilderness areas, a boardwalk that takes you from Ward Island beach to Manitou Beach.
Hanlan Island is home to Hanlan's Point Beach, which is the best beach on Toronto Islands, and despite its proximity to Toronto City, meets the Blue Flag standard set by the Foundation for Environmental Education guaranteeing the water quality of freshwater recreational beaches. Hanlan's Point Beach also hosts a nudist area for those sun worshippers who like to bear all.
It is possible to walk from one side of Toronto Island Park to the other, but it is easier and more fun to see the island by hiring a bicycle or four-wheel bicycle buggy from Island Bicycle Rental, located next to the pier on Centre Island.
Boating and canoeing are popular with crafts available for hire from the Island Boathouse. The park is also home to several yacht clubs, and has a number of sporting facilities: tennis courts, softball diamonds and volleyball courts.
The Park contains several cafes, food stalls and drinking fountains. There are also many picnic tables scattered throughout the park.
You can get fine views of the city's skyline from the islands.
The Park is open all year, but many facilities are closed outside of the summer months.
Jun - Aug: all facilities are open daily
May & Sep: all facilities are open at weekends only
Jan - Mar & Oct - Dec: Most facilities are closed
