ONTARIO PLACE

Ontario Place is a popular cultural, leisure and entertainment site that is mainly open only in the summer.

The complex, opened in 1971, extends across three man-made islands along the Lake Ontario waterfront. The five pod pavilion and geodesic dome has a futuristic design that creates the impression that the structure is floating above the water.

The 96 acre complex contains a theme park, water park, Cinesphere and a theatre. Attractions feature water slides, bumper boats, flume ride, mini-golf etc. Many areas of the park are designed specifically for young children, providing climbing frames, tunnels, slides etc., that are soft, padded and safe.

The cinesphere - a 752 armchair imax movie cinema has a curved screen that is six stories-high (60-feet wide by 80-feet high). The cinema shows a range of entertaining and educational movies throughout the year, as well as hollywood blockbusters.

The complex also hosts various events and live entertainment, from children entertainers to musical concerts.

The annual Benson & Hedges Symphony of Fire International Fireworks competition is held here in July, with international teams competing to set fireworks to music.

Cultural festivals are held throughout the summer, where a country's food, arts and crafts, and entertainment is celebrated.

The annual Air Show is held here each Labour day weekend
