Montreal has several large underground shopping complexes many of which are connected to each other through passageways. They are collectively known as the Underground City. These underground shops are mainly found near the main metros, particulary Peel & McGill. You will almost certainly need a map of this 'Underground city' if you wish to find your way through the connecting passageways.(Click here for PDF Map)
The Underground City has over 1, 500 shops, plus restaurants and cinemas!
Some shopping centres on the street lead down to the Underground city, including the Montreal Eaton Center on 705 Sainte Catherine West, which is home to over 175 boutiques and restaurants.
The Underground City is very useful during harsh winter months to keep warm, and the hot summer to keep cool!
