The Montreal History Centre opened in 1983 in a former fire station built in 1903.
Over 2500 artefacts, mostly 20th century objects, make up the centre's collection.
The centre has a permanent exhibition on the ground floor, which features five eventful eras in the city's history, starting with the Amerindians in 1535 to the cultural boom of the 1960s and 70s, and the 20th century. The displays are entertainingly presented with interactive games and sounds.
The Horatio Nelson statue that originally stood on top of Nelson's column in Place Jacques Cartier is now found here, after it was removed in 1997 to preserve it from the weather. A copy now stands atop of the column in Place Jacques Cartier.
The museum also has temporary exhibitions on the other two floors.
