The EURO became the official currency of Belgium in 2002, replacing the Belgium franc.

There are 100 cents in a Euro (€).

Euro Coins: 1€, 2€

Cent Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50

Euro Notes: 5€, 10€, 20€, 50€, 100€, 200€, 500€


  CREDIT CARDS

Visa, MasterCard and American Express are all widely accepted in Brussels for most things including Shopping, restaurants, Hotel bills.


  MONEY EXCHANGE

You can change cash at Banks in Brussels

There are several ATM machines in Brussels, which may be cheaper to withdraw money using your debit or credit card, but this depends on your individual bank charges!!


  BANKS OPENING TIMES

Generally...
9am - 4pm/5pm (Mon - Fri)
(Some close for lunch 1pm and 2pm)
(A few are open on Saturday mornings)


  TIPPING

Restaurants: often include a service charge, but some diners still add 5% - 10% or round up the bill .

Taxis: includes a service charge, but still expect to add 5% - 10%, round up the bill.

Porters, doormen, room service around 50 cent - 1€

Theatre/Cinema usherette: 50 cent - 1€

Toilet attendant : 50 cent - 1€
