
Originally Founded in 1864. In 1873, after three years of construction, the current building on
Stubenring is opened on the 15th of November. Built in the style
of the renaissance according to the plans of Heinrich von Ferstel.
The museum displays furniture, glass, china, silver, and textiles from the Middle Ages to the present day.
Highlights include 19th century bentwood chairs designed by Michael Thonet; Biedermeier sofas; and works produced at the Wiener Werkstatte, an arts & crafts workshop, which was founded in 1904 by Josef Hoffmann and Kolomann Moser.
