
The black-and-white checkerboard facade building designed by Friedrich Hundertwasser, who lived 1928 - 2000, was officially opened as the KunstHausWien in 1991, to house a permanent exhibition of Friedrich Hundertwasser’s paintings and provide space for international exhibitions.
The total exhibition space comes to about 4,000 sq.m. On the ground floor there are the Museum Shop and a café/restaurant. On the first two upper floors a cross-section of Hundertwasser’s work is on display, including painting, graphics, tapestries and architectural models. The third and fourth floors are reserved for the international exhibitions.
