PRUNKSAAL
(State Hall at National Library)




The Prunksaal, designed in 1721 by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and finished after his death in 1723 by his son Joseph Emanuel, was until 1918, the building of the Imperial Library, called the "Hofbibliothek". It is now the state Hall at the National Library.

This grand Baroque library, at around 80 metres long, has impressive domed and marble interior, with giant bookcases and many frescoes.
