The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of Sydney's most famous landmarks
This massive steel-arch Bridge, known locally as the "Coat Hanger", opened in 1932. It is the world's largest (but not longest as that's the New River Gorge in the USA)
Chief engineer of the Bridge was Dr John Bradfield, who prepared the general design.
The Bridge carries eight vehicle lanes, two train lines, a footway and a cycleway.
There are two interesting Bridge Climbs for the adventurous....
The Bridge Climb takes you along catwalks, up ladders, and steadily to the summit of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Experience the satisfaction of conquering the upper arch of the Bridge while taking in city surrounds, the Sydney Opera House, the harbour and the Bridge itself beneath your feet. (3½ hours : From $169 - $295 AUS - depending what day or night you choose)
The Discovery Climb Takes you inside the workings of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, within its very heart, for a behind-the-scenes look at this Australian icon. You will be led to the summit upon the suspension arch of the Bridge, winding around structural elements and climbing upon steep staircases that join the two arches. (3½ hours : From $169 - $295 AUS - depending what day or night you choose)
