Hyde Park, founded in 1810 by Governor Macquarie, is Australia's oldest park.
It was named after the original Hyde Park in London.
Hyde Park contains well-kept gardens and over 600 trees, with 122 Hills Figs in the main avenue. The main avenue was planted in the 1930s following the construction of the underground rail network.
At the northern end of the part is the Archibald Fountain, unveiled in 1932 in honour of Australia's contribution to the Great War in France. At the park's southern end is the ANZAC War Memorial behind the 'Lake of Reflections' or 'Pool of Remembrance' .
