Susannah Place Museum is a terrace of four brick and sandstone houses, built in 1844. They had a continuous domestic occupancy up to the 1990s. The interior of the houses retains the many renovations made by the former occupants over the years.
"The modest interiors and rear yards illustrate the restrictions of 19th century inner city life. The many layers of the paint finishes, wallpapers and floor coverings that have survived provide an insight into the tastes of the working class. The original brick privvies and open laundries are some of the earliest surviving washing and sanitary amenities remaining in the city."
The building incorporates a re-created 1915 corner store selling authentic goods and wares of this era.
