The Colonial Gothic building, was built by convict architect, Francis Greenway in 1821, as Stables and servants' quarters for Government House. In 1915, a grey slated roofed concert hall was built in the courtyard and the building was converted into a music school.
In 1990, the Conservatorium amalgamated with the University of Sydney, and was renamed to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. (informally known as the ‘Con’)
During the school term lunchtime concerts are regularly held at the cafe.
You can take a Self-guided Tour of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
