Built in 1816, Cadmans Cottage is the oldest standing house in Sydney. It was named after John Cadman who was a convict in 1798 and who lived in the cottage till 1846.
The water police took over Cadmans cottage in 1847 and later it was used by the adjacent sailors home.
Cadmans Cottage was built beside the water, but since the construction of Circular Quay in the 1870s, it is well back from the waterfont.
This sandstone cottage is now used for Sydney Harbour National Park Visitors Centre, but part of the cottage has been converted to a small museum you can visit for free.
